Knitting
What's on my needles right now? The big project is the Sweet Mary Jane
cardigan/bed-jacket knit-a-long. This is my first adventure in lace knitting
and the pattern is
wonderful and a great introduction to the art of lace knitting. Sadly, KnitPicks
no longer carries this pattern, but the ample_knitters e-group was blessed
by the presence of the designer, Celeste Culpepper, who got approval from
KnitPicks to share the design with us. Let me say right now that Celeste
is a wonderful and conscientious designer
who also happens to be a very friendly and helpful person!
As of today (May 24th, 2007) I've done the matching sachet (a great idea for checking gauge and getting used to lace knitting while still making a finished piece that can be put to good use!) and am on the 12th row of the body. I'm just getting far enough into the pattern to see that - miraculously! - it is working and I am actually making lace! I expect blocking it to be an adventure, but I'll worry about that later.

Comfort stole (alternating rows of Linie 131 Fantasy and KnitPicks Crayon Burnt Sienna. The Fantasy came as part of a kit from Carodan Farms, but after working with it, I felt it needed something more solid to offset it. In exchange for getting the Fantasy so inexpensively, I have agreed to give the finished stole to someone with cancer. I am not pleased with the way my stole turned out, but I'm doing some more finishing work on it to see if I can get it nice enough to give to someone. I do know a couple of people with cancer and there is also a project through which I can donate the finished stole, but I haven't decided yet where it's going. If, like me, you love the process of knitting more than the possession of a finished product, check out this kit - it's a great bargain and you will be doing something good for someone in a bad situation.
